10 Famous Acting Performances That Got Worse As Their Franchise Went On
5. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) - Twilight
Kristen Stewart is an easy target for Internet commentators who already have a high degree of hatred for the Twilight movie series. That said, she was nothing if not well cast in the role: in the first movie, she demonstrated the angst and vulnerability necessary to put paid to the source material, even if her indie film credits made her unquestionably "above" work such as this. There's always been an inkling that Stewart and her screen lover Robert Pattinson were in on the joke, and weren't particularly fans of the Twilight stories themselves, something Pattinson especially hinted at with little subtlety while doing press for the later movies. This would certainly explain Stewart's increasingly bland performances throughout the series: she's taking the money and running. For a character supposed to be the in the hormone-infused throes of first love, however, Stewart's blank expressions and increasingly stilted delivery made Bella a strangely boring, unlikeable character, and that's without even discussing the series' bizarre sexual politics. Bella should have evolved over the series from a timid girl into something much more disarming, but Stewart's lack of charisma denied the character that, and by the final movie, we were just glad that it was over.
