10 Famous Actors Who Tried To Direct Movies (And Failed)
5. Loverboy - Kevin Bacon
Everyone knows that Kevin Bacon is one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood, so one would think that he wouldn't even have time to direct movies. However, Bacon directed the 1996 TV movie Losing Chase starring wife Kyra Sedgwick and nine years later directed a feature film, 2005's Loverboy, an adaptation of the novel by Victoria Redel about an emotionally troubled mother. Loverboy ended up a family affair, as it starred Bacon himself, Kyra Sedgwick, their children Sosie and Travis, and Sedgwick's brother Robert Sedgwick. In addition, the score was written by Kevin Bacon's brother Michael. However, a theatrical release of the Bacon family's home movies would have probably been more successful than Loverboy. The movie was hated by critics (scoring a 17% rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and grossed only $53,457 worldwide. It was only released in 4 theaters in Bacon's native U.S. Bacon later directed four episodes of the TV series The Closer, which starred - you guessed it - Kyra Sedgwick, and one of those episodes also featured Sosie as a guest star. So as long as members of the Bacon family keep acting there's always a chance that Kevin Bacon might direct again.
