10 Famous Actors Who Tried To Direct Movies (And Failed)

3. Daddy Day Camp - Fred Savage

Though former child star Fred Savage has mostly put acting behind him, he's done well for himself as a television director. Savage has directed episodes of popular shows like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 2 Broke Girls, Modern Family and more kid-themed television series, including episodes of his younger brother Ben's series Boy Meets World. However, Savage has only directed a single theatrically released feature, Daddy Day Camp, the 2007 sequel to Eddie Murphy's 2003 film Daddy Day Care. Though the 2004 original was critically panned, it was a surprise box office hit. Nonetheless, even Eddie Murphy wanted nothing to do with the sequel and his character is instead played by fellow washed-up actor Cuba Gooding, Jr. In fact, not a single actor from the original film appeared in the sequel. While Daddy Day Camp ended up grossing $18.2 million on a $6 million budget, that was only about one tenth of what the original made at the box office. It scored a jaw-dropping 1% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with only one critic giving it a positive review. In other words, if this is the best Fred Savage can do in the movies, it's a good thing he has stuck with directing television ever since.
