6. Danny DeVito - Pulp Fiction
What initially got Quentin Tarantino into cinemas was actor endorsement; Harvey Keitel not only starred in Reservoir Dogs, but produced it too. But, contrary to popular belief, his breakthrough film had little effect on him getting the sprawling follow up made. Production company Jersey Films had wanted to get Tarantino on side before Dogs hit and jumped at the chance to it with Pulp Fiction. And although it was Lawrence Bender, Tarantinos producer from Dogs through to Inglourious Basterds (smartly missing out the messy Death Proof), who eventually took Tarantinos script to Miramax, it was Jersey who drummed up hype for it first. And whos head of Jersey Films I hear you ask? Why its everyones favourite short Italian Danny DeVito. He ended up snapping only an executive producer credit, but he and his company was essential in getting to project initially off the ground.
