Alfred Hitchcock is remembered as one of the greatest directors ever due to his memorable works such as Psycho and the Birds. However, every great director has to start from somewhere, and after his first film flopped, Hitchcock tried again with what would be his second (and his only lost) film, the romantic melodrama, The Mountain Eagle.

When Hitchcock screened the final film to the producers, they hated it so much that they refused to release it. It wasn't until Hitchcock found success with his third film in 1927 that the producers decided to release the Mountain Eagle in an attempt to capitalise on this new wave of success. Unfortunately, critics also hated the film and it bombed.

When the film was later lost, Hitchcock himself was glad to see it disappear forever as he also considered it terrible.

But even with Hitchcock himself deriding The Mountain Eagle, it still would've been incredibly interesting to see one of his earliest works and how it stacks up to the rest of his filmography. It's a shame that no one will ever see the film as it's a pretty safe bet that Alfred Hitchcock's worst film is probably still light years better than most of Hollywood's directors' best films.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
