7. The Oxygen Tank Would Have Never Exploded In Real Life - Jaws
Jaws is a movie about a super intelligent shark who develops a grudge against the three men who set about to kill it, and although one of them dies in the process, in the end they manage to blow it up using a conveniently- placed oxygen tank and an even more conveniently-placed M1 Garand rifle. With only a few bullets left in the Chief Brody manages to shoot the tank (placed in the shark's mouth) as the creature approaches. Ka-boom! And although this certainly makes for a superior ending (because, hey, we didn't want to see the shark dead unless it was blown into a zillion pieces, right?), it's also one that Steven Spielberg conjured up on a whim because he thought it'd be more cool. He wasn't wrong, it's a great scene, although oxygen tanks are purposely designed to not explode in the way that
Jaws showed them to. Shooting it would have just seen it spinning off. Not
quite so awesome.
