8. Carrie - Andie MacDowell (Four Weddings and a Funeral)
Why They Derailed The Movie: Lack Of Chemistry Between Leads I'm not a big fan of actress Andie MacDowell - not because she's a
really bad actress or anything, but she does only really seem capable of playing one character, which means you don't really ever leave the movie theatre thinking about her. Which is to say, she frequently serves her purpose - as witnessed in movies like
Groundhog Day - but in classic rom-com
Four Weddings and a Funeral, she pretty much derails the whole freakin' thing. So much so, in fact, that her character - Carrie - sticks out like a sore thumb, and pretty much compromises the performances of every one else around her, including Hugh Grant, who is on spectacular form here. Has there ever been such a horribly wooden and blandy character (hey, "Blandy Andie!") for a protagonist to fall in love with in a rom-com? The answer is yes, of course... but Carrie is certainly one of the biggest offenders of this trope.
