10 Famous Movies You Didn't Realise Were Already Other Movies

5. Galaxy Quest (1999) Is Three Amigos (1986)

galaxy quest amigosGalaxy Quest has to be one of the most downright absurd movies ever made, which isn't surprisingly given that it accidently seems to have taken its entire plot from Three Amigos, another movie rife with mind-blowing absurdity. Galaxy Quest, a kind of parody of Star Trek-like tropes, concerns itself with a plot about a group of actors who get mistaken for the badass characters that they used to play onscreen and find themselves forced into a dangerous conflict as a result. If you've ever seen Three Amigos, you'll know that that's exactly what happens in that movie, too, just in the far reaches of Mexico instead of space. So, let's see: Quest and Amigos both feature characters with extreme egos, and only by overcoming their personality flaws are they allowed to save the day. Not convincing enough? Well, consider the fact that in both movies the actors are recruited by cultures who have no concept of "acting," and that they allow themselves to be caught up in situations that you or I would have put a stop to the moment we realised we were being initiated. The movies even end with the same message, with both sets of actors encouraging their respective cultures to stop letting themselves be pushed around.
