10 Famous Movies You Had No Idea Were Actually Remakes

1. Meet The Parents (2000)

Meet The Parents 1

You Know It As... That rather funny Ben Stiller comedy flick that had him going up against Robert De Niro, who happened to be the world's worst father-in-law. Meet The Parents went on to become the highest-grossing comedy movie of all time when it was first released in 2000, presumably because every boyfriend/husband to be on the planet could relate to its nerve-jangling anxieties. In the movie, De Niro plays a former CIA operative who decides to make life hell for his daughter's fiance when they go to stay for the weekend. It'll put you off family gatherings for good. It's A Remake Of...Meet The Parents (1992), a small, low-budget indie movie, written, directed and starring a guy named Greg Glienna. And barely anybody knows about it! Universal liked the premise so much that they decided to buy the rights and remake the movie with a larger budget and famous actors. The original version is far darker, though, and ends on a far more unsettling note - the plot point regarding the CIA agent father is also completely absent. Interestingly, Steven Soderbergh originally planned to direct the remake, but chose to make Out Of Sight instead. Which movies have we missed? Let us know in the comments section below.
