10 Famous People You May Have Forgotten Were Oscar Winners

2. Peter Capaldi

While Peter Capaldi has been given the tough task of following Matt Smith in the upcoming season of Doctor Who, there is one thing that he's had crossed off his bucket list for a long time now. That's right... Peter Capaldi is an Oscar winner! The Scottish actor has enjoyed all kinds of success on both sides of the Atlantic. He's starred in a number of different television series in the UK, most notably as Malcolm Tucker in The Thick Of It. But the man has also been in a few Hollywood movies as well, albeit in small roles, dating back to 1988's Dangerous Liaisons to last year's World War Z. He also has a role in the upcoming Disney film, Maleficient, which comes out this summer. Still, Peter Capaldi did not win an Oscar for his acting abilities. Instead, he won the Oscar in 1995 for his short film, Franz Kafka's It's A Wonderful Life. Peter Capaldi wrote and directed the 23-minute film, which starred Richard E. Grant (who's also appeared in Doctor Who!). Capaldi also had to share his Oscar victory with another short film (Trevor), which was one of the few instances in Oscar history where there wound up being a tie. Peter Capaldi's Oscar speech, unfortunately, is nowhere to be found online - but his entire short film can be viewed on YouTube.
