10 Famous Script Doctors Who Helped Write The Films We Love

6. Sir Tom Stoppard

A famous playwright and screenwriter, Sir Tom Stoppard earned an Academy Award for his screenplay Shakespeare in Love, contributed to the script for Terry Gilliam's Brazil and wrote the renowned play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. Stoppard also used his literary skills to spit shine the cult hit Sleepy Hollow and the action-smash The Bourne Ultimatum. One of Stoppard's most unheralded achievements is his work on the all time action adventure classic Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. Rumours abound that Stoppard's close friend, George Lucas, tapped him to ensure that the screenplay for Lucas' final instalment in the Star Wars saga, Revenge of The Sith, wouldn't sink to the terrifying lows that The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones did. Because one of the jobs of the script doctor is to never take credit for his work, we may never know whether Lucas, or the Tony and Academy Award-winner Stoppard, penned Darth Vader's infamous "NOOOOOOO!".
