10 Famous Things That Were Invented By Movie Time Travellers
5. Marty McFly Invents The Frisbee - Back To The Future Part III
Marty McFly seems to have a made it a personal goal of his to go through time, coming up with new inventions with the frenzy of an old-timey tinkerer. If only he had the presence of mind to file a few seemingly minor yet historically significant patents, he'd have been able to build up quite a little nest egg for himself and Jennifer back in 1985. It stands to reason that the further back in time one goes, the more opportunities one has to re-appropriate future tech. If McFly is about to invent things after going back a mere 30 years, imagine the field day he could have in the 19th century. That's where we see Marty, in the criminally under-appreciated conclusion to the Back to the Future trilogy. In this one, he takes an empty pie dish and flings it across the room to help in an Old West brawl. And yes, that is technically what the old style Frisbees used to be, although they didn't acquire the name Frisbee until the 1950s, and were originally called Flyin' Saucers. How the Frisbee Pie Company, based in Bridgeport, CT, managed to get one of their pies all the way out to Hill Valley, CA in the 1800s is just another one of life's great mysteries. But if we're going to let the time travel slide, we should probably cut them a little slack in the Frisbee department.
