10 Fan Theories About Tarantino Movies That Make Perfect Sense
6. The Bride Did Not Kill Bill
This theory might propose a rather anticlimactic conclusion to Tarantino’s Kill Bill series given its title and whole raison d’être is about the killing of Bill but there are some rather persuasive arguments that suggest Bill is in fact not dead after all.
The main evidence comes in the form of the credits we see roll at the end of Kill Bill: Vol. 2 that show all names of the actors behind slain characters crossed out. Neither Uma Thurman and David Carradine’s names, however, are crossed out. We know that the Bride survived but could this mean Bill did too?
Another suggestion is that though we see the Bride’s mentor Pai Mei teach her many a handy kung fu move, we never see him school her in the art of the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique – the move she supposedly kills Bill with and one that Pei Mei never teaches anyone.
Perhaps that’s because she never did learn the technique and Bill is simply playing dead like they both did earlier when the Bride discovered their daughter was alive after all, which leads to another particularly telling point …
When she learns her daughter isn’t dead the Bride’s main reason for wanting to off Bill is gone. Sure, he put her in a coma that meant she missed the first four years of her daughter’s life but maybe she just doesn’t have the urge anymore. And it’s pretty obvious at this point that despite both trying to kill each other the Bride and Bill have a lot of love for each other.
So she play-acts doing the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique and he play-acts being dead allowing the Bride to escape with their daughter so they can have a happy future together. It’s actually quite sweet really.
