10 Fascinating Facts You Didn't Know About John Wick
2. The Baba Yaga Lore Is Very Different In John Wick
With any master assassin comes a wealth of stories and nicknames that send shivers down the spines of anyone unfortunate enough to be in their way, and John Wick has one of the best nicknames out there; Baba Yaga. The film explains to us that this relates John Wick to The Boogeyman, or more accurately, the man you send to kill The Boogeyman.
However, in Slavic folklore, Baba Yaga and John Wick couldn't have less in common. Firstly, Baba Yaga is depicted as having a woman's body, one which is twisted and deformed, and can also be accompanied by two sisters of a similar look.
If that wasn't enough, the Baba Yaga of mythology lives in a home that stands on chicken legs in the middle of the forest, can fly in a giant mortar while wielding a pestle, and may devour any lost people that encounter them.
Needless to say, seeing John astride a horse or motorbike seems much more fitting than a giant mortar, and we'll take a sharpened pencil in his hands over a pestle any day.
