10 Fascinating Predictions About Avengers: Infinity War
4. The Infinity Gauntlet Will Be Very Underwhelming
So far, the Infinity Stones have been very, very disappointing. The Tesseract has been by far the most exciting. In addition to basic energy blasts and the ability to provide power to other weapons, it was also able to open portals across space. Still, it was hardly presented as a universal threat. The Aether was far less exciting. It emitted dark energy that didn't even give Malekith enough power to defeat Thor and it infected Jane Foster, threatening her life. The Orb only really showed the ability to fire concussive blasts of energy, making it even less interesting. Finally, the Infinity Stone in Loki's sceptre (which we're now led to believe is what it was), could control people's minds upon physical contact and fire powerful blasts of energy. These aren't even close to the levels of power that the individual Infinity Gems in the comics have displayed and, as a result, we don't expect the completed Infinity Gauntlet of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be anywhere near as powerful as the comic book version, which enable its wielder to do anything they so wish on a universal scale, essentially making them God. Don't expect Thanos to be clicking his fingers and making half of the sentient life in the universe disappear. He'll probably just be able to do the very basic things the Infinity Stones were able to do as individual entities.
