6. Ian McDiarmid Moved The Emperor's Throne With His Feet

Apologies in advance for potentially killing the unsettling aura of one of the most formidable big bads in movie history.

Along with the way he delivered just about every piece of creepy dialogue and physically transformed into the ancient, all-powerful Sith Lord, Ian McDiarmid's cold and unnerving spins on his Death Star throne helped establish Emperor Palpatine as an iconic villain.

However, according to the star himself, there was actually more to those swivelling moments than meets the eye (via StarWars_Insider).

McDiarmid would eventually reveal at Star Wars Celebration that this automated chair simply refused to hit its mark during the moments Palpatine was required to spin his way into a scene. This then led to George Lucas asking his actor if he would be happy to help ensure the seat landed in the right spot once the cameras started rolling.

And so, though you'd never guess based on how smooth said spins ultimately looked, that's very much McDiarmid using his feet to spin his throne when Darth Sidious meets Luke Skywalker for the very first time in Return of the Jedi.
