5. Maz Kanata Is Rey's Master
The Empire Strikes Back gave us Yoda, diminutive green guru and eternal fan favourite who trained Luke in the Jedi ways. If The Last Jedi is to follow Empire as closely as The Force Awakens followed A New Hope, it needs a Yoda: an easily-dismissed, quirky but wise and insightful soul who has seen it all and can guide a young hero on the path ahead.
Step forward Maz Kanata, begoggled pirate queen and mistress of The Force Awakens' obligatory drinking establishment full of weirdos. The theory states that Maz will become Rey’s master, either as a Jedi or a non-Jedi Force User.
In this theory's favour, Han suggests Maz has been around for at least a thousand years, which might not just be a figure of speech, and she also possesses Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber for a reason the movie left frustratingly and blatantly vague.
Maz can read emotions by looking into someone's eyes and even has the apparently harmless appearance of Yoda in Empire Strikes Back. The parallels are there, and if Maz has more to do in the series it won't just be as a Wookiee-hungry innkeeper.
