10 Film Heroes Who Really Didn't Need To Die

8. Man In The Coffee Shop - Meet Joe Black

Meet Joe Black was a Brad Pitt-starring romance, that got off to a shaky start when Pitt's character was involved in horrific fatal accident in the opening twenty minutes. Okay, he returns later on in the movie, but when the death actually occurs, it's a fairly shocking early twist. Susan Parrish is considering marriage. She's really not that bothered about it, but she doesn't think she'll ever find anyone better than the man she's going out with; when her father tells her, "Lightning might strike," though, he inadvertently predicts that she'll meet the man of her dreams (Pitt) in a coffee shop. The pair hit it off straight away; they leave the coffee shop, and as he looks over towards where she went, hoping to catch a glimpse of her, he doesn't realise that he's standing right in the middle of the road. He moves back slightly to avoid being hit by a car, only to be hit by one behind. As his body bounces off the car he's been hit, it hits another car in the opposite direction. There's no coming back from being hit by two cars; well, not in the real world anyway. Of course, if he'd just have been looking where he was going, none of that would've happened. We're meant to believe that he was fixated on the love of his life, but as Meet Joe Black proves, even the most lovestruck of us have to remember our green cross code at all times.
