10 Film Scenes That Secretly Glamorised Drugs

8. Requiem For A Dream

Drugs: Heroin/Amphetamine Arguably less glamorous than any other entry in this list, Requiem For A Dream tells the story of how drug abuse can quite easily destroy a person's life. Indeed, by the film's climax, each substance abusing character is reduced to a helpless, child-like state; curled up in the fetal position, lamenting their mistakes. Quite understandably, you might question the inclusion of this film here. Made simply, it is not the resulting effects of the drugs that glamorises their inclusion, but rather the premise for it. Under typically desperate circumstances, leading protagonist Sara Goldfarb (Ellen Burstyn) turns to prescribed weight-loss amphetamine pills in a bid to regain the beauty of her youth. Had she considered alternative measures - such as a simple regime of a balanced diet and frequent exercise - then she would not have spiralled downwardly out of control. The film arguably glamorises the use of amphetamine as a first call for a get-slim-quick alternative.
