10 Film Sidekicks More Interesting Than The Main Character

4. Doc Brown - Back To The Future

doc-brown Marty McFly is just your average everyday 80s teen, but Doctor Emmett Brown is the guy who invented time travel. It's kind of hard to compete with that. Despite the fact that he's an immensely popular character, we really know appallingly little about him outside of his adventures with Marty. He's this middle-aged single guy, who comes from a wealthy German family, and has blown all of his money on his crackpot inventions. Before Marty came along in the twilight of Doc Brown's life, he must have been pretty lonely. It seems like he just sat in that big old house with his dogs, trying to be the next Edison. I always think that the test of a truly fantastic sidekick is when I ask myself if I would watch a movie or TV show based solely on them. If the answer is yes, then they have to be pretty awesome. Doc Brown passes with flying colors.
