10 Film Subplots Infinitely Better Than The Main Story

9. Connor And Brendan's Relationship - Sing Street

STAR WARS FINN
Lionsgate

The underrated 2016 John Carney film Sing Street tells the story of Connor, a young Irish boy who asks his crush Raphina to appear in his band's music video. When she says yes, he actually has to form a band. Against all odds, Connor's scheme works, and he and Raphina start dating.

Despite the sweetness of Connor and Raphina's relationship, the more interesting Sing Street duo is Connor and his older brother Brendan. Brendan teaches Connor everything he knows about music and women, and they become closer in the process.

Brendan's monologue about what it's like to be the older brother is heartbreaking, and those emotions deserve a song just as much as Connor's crush.
