10 Film Subplots Infinitely Better Than The Main Story

8. Luke's Sister - Star Wars: Episode VI - Return Of The Jedi

Yoda's final words in Empire Strike Back, "There is another" sparked plenty of proto-fan theories in the early 80s. Who could this other Skywalker be? Would they have force powers too? Could Luke have a secret sibling?

Return of the Jedi then makes the disappointing decision to say that Leia, a character we already knew in this vast universe, happens to be Luke's secret sister. To make matters worse, the subplot is almost completely dropped as soon as Obi-Wan answers the mystery. Leia never learns to use the Force in this film, and her being Force sensitive only comes up when Vader threatens to turn her to the Dark Side.

As it stands, the "Luke's sister" subplot feels like the writers forgot about this plot point from Empire Strike Back, but with more attention, it could have been one of the most compelling storylines in Star Wars.
