10 Film & TV Locations That Attracted The WRONG Sort Of Attention
2. Indiana Jones And The Neighbourhood WhatsApp Group
We’ve all heard of keeping up with the Joneses, but this is ridiculous! One street in East London was left fuming when a lucky neighbour was reportedly paid £50,000 (or $70,000) for their house to be used in the upcoming Indiana Jones 5. Filming took place in Hackney in June this year, and garnered a negative response from the locals.
Residents complained to the newspapers about the disruption caused by shooting. Vintage cars lined the streets, reducing the number of available parking spaces for residents. Filming often ran on until midnight, requiring Hollywood lighting to be at full blast. They also took to their neighbourhood WhatsApp group to have a go at the homeowner for pocketing the cash and leaving them to deal with the chaos.
As disruptive as it must be to have a multi-million-dollar movie franchise rock up on your doorstep, good old fashioned British jealousy and entitlement also seems to be playing a big part in the outrage.
We all know that “where there’s a blame, there’s a claim”. If DIsney have £50,000 to give away for a week’s filming, what else can they afford to pay out for disruption? What better way to get a little compensation than give a big Hollywood production some bad publicity?
Although, these residents might have picked the wrong franchise; didn’t anyone see Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?
