10 Films About Voyeurism

3. A Scanner Darklya-scanner-darkly

As you'd expect from a Philip K Dick adaptation, paranoia scuttles like a cockroach throughout Richard Linklater's rotoscope marvel. Though it's a different type of bug that troubles shape-shifting agent Bob Arctor (Keanu Reeves). Hidden under a 'scramble suit', an amorphous disguise that constantly changes his appearance, he infiltrates the supply chain of a deadly hallucinogen called Substance D. With covert surveillance tracking his every move, Arctor soon begins to feel as jittery as those he's monitoring. While the allure of simply being a spectator proves too great, the regular accusation of a 'narc' amongst the group makes Arctor fear for his identity. That is, if even he knew who he was. Leading a double life on camera, the only willing participant in the experiment, has only led his superiors to peer as closely into Arctor's life as those around him.
