10 Films Based On Real Life Serial KIllers

6. The Boston Strangler (1968)

11.03.2013boston 1 The Boston Strangler is a name given to a murderer of several women in Boston, Massachusetts In the early 1960s. They have been widely attributed to Albert DeSalvo due to a confession in another court case. However, parties investigating the case suggest the murders may have been carried out by two people. "You can't entangle her from the Boston Strangler" - these were some cheesy heavy metal lyrics I once heard back when I was a rock chick. If anyone can identify the source, please let me know below. The film is famous for its split screen approach to show DeSalvo's crimes and the police investigation, a technique which has rarely been used since. Tony Curtis was not known for his good acting, but in The Boston Strangler he gives an amazing performance as Albert DeSalvo who was schizophrenic. The film is a good study of madness but it shows its age as homosexuals are rounded up as suspects of the murders. Henry Fonda and George Kennedy are a bit stiff as investigating detectives in the first half of the film, but it really comes alive when Curtis makes his appearance. It is a must see film, if only for Curtis' performance.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
