10 Films Inspired By Real Life Events (That Never Actually Happened)
7. The Fourth Kind Is Aparently The Worst Kind
There is good taste when it comes to marketing a film, there is bad taste when it comes to marketing a film, and then there is The Fourth Kind.
The film claimed to be based on a series of real-life disappearances that took place in Alaska at the ends of the '90s, stating they were caused by alien abduction, with the production going so far as to create a website posting fake news reports from several real Alaskan newspapers.
As if creating fake news wasn't bad enough, the stories that The Fourth Kind claimed to be based on were a tragic string of traveller disappearances, and suspected local suicides that affected several large Alaskan towns at the end fo the last Millennium.
Subject to several lawsuits from the newspapers that the film misrepresented and savaged by critics and news organisations at large upon release, The Fourth Kind remains a great example of how not to go about making and marketing a film that has no truth to it in the slightest but making it seem like it does.
