10 Films Where You Rooted For Killer Toys

10. The Toys Of Gabriel & Hilary Hartwicke (Dolls)

Before Chucky, before Puppet Master, before virtually every contender on this list came this gem of a movie, released in 1987. Judy is travelling with her gold-digging father and her stepmother Rosemary (who seems to be channeling Cruella De Vil) when they wind up stranded in the countryside at the sprawling and creepy home of toy maker Gabriel Hartwicke and his wife Hilary. Joined by another stranded traveller named Ralph and two British punk rock hitchhikers, Judy and her parents attempt to survive "the longest night in the world" as the toys of the Hartwickes come to life and begin picking each of them off one-by-one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hjKgWyCt4I Why You Rooted For Them: From the get-go, we are made not to like Judy's father and stepmother, and later on it is revealed that the two British hitchhikers are thieves looking to swindle the good-natured Ralph as well as rob the Hartwickes blind. There are absolutely no redeeming qualities for any of these four characters, with the exception of their loyalties to their respective partners. Of course, when faced with characters that have no good qualities, the best course of action is to pick the side of the killer bears, soldiers, puppets, and dolls that seem to have no real interest in harming Judy or Ralph. Their sole mission throughout the film seems to be to punish anyone possessing ill will.
