Here's the great thing about cartoon characters: they don't age. Who Framed Roger Rabbit was released in 1988 and, if its stars were live action, this would make a sequel a challenge. Actors move on or can't convincingly play the same characters decades apart (though tell that to George Lucas or Richard Linklater). However, half the stars of Rabbit are cartoons and convincingly replacing a voice actor is significantly less challenging. Though Bob Hoskins and Christopher Lloyd would be missed, it seems a shame not to spend more time with these Toons. The original spoofed 40s Hollywood but there's no suggestion that toons age at the same rate as humans. This means that, much like with the Muppets franchise, a sequel could take place at any time, including the present.
