This comedy thriller from the late 90s was the directorial debut of Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter behind the first two Scream movies. It stars Helen Mirren as the titular high school teacher Mrs Tingle alongside Katie Holmes, a student who is willing to do anything to realise her dream of becoming class Valedictorian, including murdering the one teacher that stands in her way.

The film was due for release in the early part of 1999 under the name Killing Mrs Tingle, though it was swiftly delayed and given a new title in the aftermath of the Columbine attacks that took place at the Colorado high school of the same name on April 20 that year.

Seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold carried out a vicious and meticulously planned attack that involved a fire bomb to divert firefighters, propane tanks converted to bombs placed in the cafeteria, 99 explosive devices, and a number of carbombs. The duo murdered 12 students and one teacher before committing suicide.

In the hysteria that followed a number of things were held to blame for the attacks, from the nation's liberal gun laws to Marilyn Manson and Goth culture, though video games and films that depicted teen violence were also high on the agenda, which did not bode well for Williamson's movie. When it was finally released in August that year it was a critical and commercial failure.
