20 Upcoming Movies You Won't Believe Are Real

Believe it or not these movies are indeed real.

Upcoming Movies That Are Weird
XYZ Films

Hollywood is in quite a weird spot right now - between the pandemic and the ever-present battle between streaming and theatrical cinema, the industry is going through some serious growing pains.

And so, studios are largely doubling down on their least-risky of bets, investing in the surest things imaginable while mostly refusing to roll the dice on the more daring, artistically adventurous fare so many viewers actually want.

But it would be a mistake to say that Hollywood has entirely lost its nerve, because if this list is any indication, there are still some incredibly odd, ballsy, and downright WTF movies being made.

Now, that doesn't mean that all of these 20 movies will turn out great or even good, but in the very least they're such staggeringly odd and unexpected films that you sure wouldn't expect to see them in the current filmmaking climate at all.

Yet strangeness and perhaps creativity prevailed, because these films are officially happening and many of them have even been shot already.

Here's hoping they make good on their attention-grabbing concepts and deliver the goods accordingly...

20. Jason Statham Stole My Bike

Transporter 3
Lionsgate

It might sound like a fake movie you'd expect to see inside another movie, but Jason Statham Stole My Bike is indeed a real motion picture that recently wrapped shooting in the UK and Malta.

Wider plot details are thin on the ground, but the film is said to be a meta action-comedy in which The Stath plays a fictional version of himself and presumably half-inches somebody's bike.

We know that the movie is being directed by Deadpool 2 and The Fall Guy filmmaker David Leitch, while the script has been penned by BoJack Horseman and School of Rock TV alum Alison Flierl, but not a single other cast member has yet been announced.

Considering that Statham is one of the most consistently bankable action stars working today, and he's proven himself such a dab hand at comedy in the past, this could very well end up one of next summer's big surprise hits.

Jason Statham Stole My Bike releases on August 6, 2027.
