Whereas the Emoji Movie presented humans as unfeeling, unsympathetic gods largely by accident, that depiction is the driving theme of Sausage Party.
This animated stoner comedy paints humans as ignorant monsters who are incapable of comprehending the pain and suffering they bring onto other lifeforms, instead subconsciously choosing to block it out so they can continue to live guilt-free lives. All this in a movie about talking hot dogs.
At least we get our comeuppance in this film, as Sausage Party goes in a wildly unexpected direction for its final scenes. We see the supermarket foodstuffs band together to mercilessly slaughter as many humans as they can, before celebrating by going to town on each other in an extremely graphic extended orgy sequence. That'll teach us for eating food without remorse: now we have to watch produce have sex for five minutes.
