8. Invasion of the Body Snatchers
Invasion of the Body Snatchers has really been given a re-evaluation since it first came out in 1956. When it was originally released it was viewed as a B-picture that was no different than any other movie at the time. Now it is seen as a brilliant allegory on the nature of communism and free will. This shows how it used the horror genre to tell a story that was heavily relevant and informative to the time it portrays but also thrilling and effective. There have been many films made that deal with social and political issues that end up becoming boring or, worse, heavy handed. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is one of the greatest political films ever made precisely because it is a great deal of fun to watch while being much more than passive entertainment. It leaves the viewer with lingering questions that aren't easily answered and only serve to heighten the film's message.
