10 Films That Should Never Be Remade
1. The Princess Bride
Told from the perspective of a father regurgitating a bedtime story to his child, this Rob Reiner cult classic follows a tale of love, betrayal and revenge.
The young damsel, Buttercup, unfortunately, sees herself captured and kidnapped more than once: she is forced into marriage by Prince Humperdink, kidnapped by Inigo Montoya and gang, and rescued by her love, Westley, only to be recaptured by Humperdink’s men.
The Princess Bride did not sell well at the box office and only garnered a following after it was released on VHS. Nowadays, though, The Princess Bride is revered as an all-time classic, and an exceptional performance from Mandy Patinkin in the role of Inigo has seen Hollywood blessed with one of its all-time greatest quotes.
It continues to stand out in today’s movie collections through its combination of light-hearted fairy-tale tropes, interesting characters and just the right amount of ridiculousness.
In what would be the only starring film role of Andre Rene Roussimoff, better known as WWF’s Andre the Giant, any attempted remake of The Princess Bride would only draw comparisons to the original, and when the original is so adored, that is a risk that no studio should dream of taking.
