10 Films That Switched Directors During Production

One of the most bizarre director switches in film history occurred just this past year and audiences will have to wait until November to see exactly how it affected things.

A Freddie Mercury biopic has been in development in Hollywood for years now, with various stars and directors coming and going over the years. Heck, even Sacha Baron Cohen was set to play Mercury at one point. But in 2017, things looked to finally be getting off the ground, with Rami Malek as Mercury and Bryan Singer directing.

Filming ran smooth-ish for a few months before being suddenly shut down. On December 1, 2017, it was widely reported that 20th Century Fox had stopped production due to the "unexpected unavailability" of Bryan Singer. Singer apparently failed to ever return to set after Thanksgiving break, which led to cinematographer Newton Thomas Sigel having to serve as director for several days.

A mere few days later, Fox brought Dexter Fletcher onboard to complete the remaining third of filming. While a great deal of this case remains shrouded in mystery, with Singer's suspicious disappearance and the way in which the timing coincided with him being accused of sexual assault, it has been confirmed that Singer will be receiving sole directing credit for the film.

But Malek's most recent comments (http://collider.com/rami-malek-interview-papillon-bohemian-rhapsody/) don't exactly sound confident in the final product.
