10 Films That Turn 10 Years Old In 2014

7. Hellboy

Columbia PicturesColumbia PicturesIn 2004 the bat had not yet begun. The Marvel juggernaut was yet to take up residency in our multiplexes and the comic book movie as a genre was resting on the spindly shoulders of Peter Parker and his web-slinging alter ego. But something was stirring in the depths€ Spawned from the mind of inker cum comic book writer, Mike Mignola, Hellboy was a fiery breath of fresh air when it first hit the page in 1994. Track forward ten years and it took a fan that just so happened to be something of a devil behind the camera in Guillermo Del Toro and voila: Big Red got a faithful romp on the big screen. And romp he did. Plot-wise, the Seed Of Destruction-inspired story is fairly bombastic - Nazis meddling with inter-dimensional portals to tip the war in their favour, Russian bad monk Rasputin lends also lends a hand €“ but with a standout turn from Ron Perlman as the cigar chomping, big-fisted hero, and some neat dynamics between Hellboy and his fellow BPRD agents (Doug Jones and David Hyde Pierce deserve applause for together bringing Ape Sapien to life), nothing about this movie is dull.
