10 Films That Were Clearly Vanity Projects

6. Jack And Jill €“ Adam Sandler

jack and jill Adam Sandler. Once a pioneer of comedy now reduced to producing utter trash such as this. Taking clear inspiration from Eddie Murphy€™s Nutty Professor series, Adam Sandler dons both the male and female roles in Jack and Jill, one of the few €œcomedies€ that is devoid of any laughs whatsoever. There really isn€™t any artistic integrity within the film, Sandler knows that any cheap laugh is hilarious to those paying to watch him, but surely even the most hardcore Sandler fan found this intolerable. Secondary characters play exactly that, second fiddle to the ego of Sandler who bounds across the screen in a fit of artificial and banal comedy. The sad reality of producing such rubbish is his films make money, convincing Sandler of his genius and therefore influencing future films. I suppose the saddest part about all this is that Sandler has proved he can be a rather brilliant actor. His performance in Paul Thomas Anderson€™s Punch Drunk Love rightly received praise for his edginess and arguable risk taking the role. He should be doing more of that and far less of this. The irony of the film is that back in 2009€™s Funny People, Sandler played a comedian jaded and disillusioned by his roles in imaginary films Re-do and Mer-Man. Jack and Jill could easily stand side by side with these, showcasing a ridiculousness that is depressing, Sandler should really know better. For nearly 10 years now, Sandler has steadily been producing films of awful quality, aware that his audience will stand by him even through the horror he provides. It€™s the career of a drifter not an innovator. And why is Al Pacino reducing himself to this? It€™s embarrassing and an incredibly sad sight to see.
