10 Films That Were Prosecuted For Obscenity

4. Fight For Your Life (1977)

Fight For Your Life is an in-your-face home invasion movie, but with the typical racial roles reversed, with a well-to-do African-American family being taunted by a white trash gang leader. Judging from William Sanderson€™s performance in Blade Runner, you wouldn€™t expect him to play the racist villain, but he€™s plenty unhinged in the role, sweating and leering and even placing his gun to a baby€™s head when people don€™t take him seriously. If anything, his performance is probably too convincing €“ the movie was rejected for a UK theatrical release in 1981, more for the racial abuse on display than the explicit violence (though there€™s still plenty of that). It later appeared uncut on VHS, and was subsequently banned. If you have a copy in your attic, hold on to it €“ not only was the film never cleared by the UK censors, but the original negative was destroyed in 2012.
