10 Films That Were Totally Changed For Foreign Audiences

10. Captain America's Ever Changing Lists

Okay so we're cheating a little with this first one, since the film in question wasn't changed beyond recognition when it was released in foreign markets. The first Captain America film did have its titled amended to include the subheading "The First Avenger" when it was released outside the United States - because, understandably, it might get mistaken for some jingoistic hoo-rah garbage by the world's most arrogant superpower otherwise - but Marvel Studios went to even greater lengths to accommodate audiences in other countries for the sequel. An early scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier sees Steve Rogers (the thawed-out WWII hero played with immense charm by Chris Evans) keeping a list of big historical events and moments in pop culture he missed while he was under ice, and needs to experience in order for him to integrate and really "get" the modern world. Except the list that you seem him take out and amend with the Troubleman soundtrack - as per Sam Wilson's suggestion - is different depending on where you watch it. In the US his to-do list includes such items as the moon landing, I Love Lucy and Steve Jobs (Apple), but that was changed for each foreign release. In Russia he was in the process of learning about Yuri Gagarin and the collapse of the Soviet Union, over here in the UK he was catching up with The Beatles and the 1966 World Cup, in South Korea he had Dance Dance Revolution and Oldboy to be getting on with, and there were similar changes for the French, Spanish, Italian, Australian, Mexican and Brazilian markets.
