1. Trick 'R Treat (2007)
Trick 'r Treat is a great little anthology movie with a cool cast that includes Anna Paquin and Brian Cox. It is written and directed by Michael Dougherty and is based on his own short film Season's Greetings. It tells four Halloween-related scary stories, all of which carry one common element - the presence of Sam, a mysterious pint-sized trick-or-treater wearing shabby orange pajamas with a creepy burlap sack over his head. He makes an appearance in all of the stories whenever someone breaks Halloween traditions. The four stories are all interwoven (though they all have their own direction and secrets) and they all occur on Halloween. In a nutshell, the four stories are about an everyday high school principal who has a secret life as a serial killer, a college virgin who might have just met the one guy for her, a group of teenagers pulling a very mean Halloween prank and a woman who loathes the night having to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband. The movie offers a very fresh approach to horror in general and very cleverly links each story, culminating in a very interesting ending. As a result, it received very good reviews and is one that should definitely be watched on Halloween night for a suitably themed holiday experience.
