10 Films Which Accidentally Predicted The Future

3. Foreshadowing The Walking Dead's Plot - Toy Story

The Walking Dead/Toy Story theory is perhaps one of the most well known examples of a film accidentally predicting the future. The theory highlights the role that Toy Story plays in foreshadowing the plot of The Walking Dead fifteen years before the zombie TV show even aired.

As well as the similarities between both the Stetson-wearing Sheriff protagonists, Woody and Rick Grimes, there are various story lines which are near identical in the Pixar films and AMC series. The theory goes that the Buzz Lightyear counterpart in The Walking Dead is Shane who is aggressively competing with the Woody/Rick Grimes character for the affection of the child. The child torn between these two role models being Andy in Toy Story and Carl in The Walking Dead.

As well as the two main characters of these franchises competing for the respect and acceptance of the innocent child, the antagonists of both franchises' third entries: Lots-O-Hugging Bear and the Governor share eerie similarities. Both of the baddies welcome the group of misfits (the group of toys in Toy Story and the survivors in The Walking Dead) into their community with open arms before revealing their sinister intentions later on.

Lots-O-Hugging Bear and the Governor both use their kind facade to charm their followers into adopting a mob mentality who subscribe to the powerful leaders' belief that those who are not with them are by definition against them.

While it may be easy to dismiss this far fetched theory that 1995’s Toy Story predicted the TV series, it also foreshadowed a lot of the same points in The Walking Dead comic books which started in 2003.
