3. Funny People
Funny People is essentially a film of two halves, but each are as unfunny as each other. The first half shows Adam Sandler, playing Adam Sandler, get diagnosed with leukaemia. Believing hes about to die, he returns to his stand up comic routes for a bunch of poor jokes and a generic change of heart plot. Once Sandler is told his leukaemia is in remission, the film splits in two as Sandler chases his ex wife that eventually results in a garden wrestling match. Seth Rogen awkwardly floats about in the background with some lame, underworked subplot of wanting to be a comedian and wanting to find love and wanting to do something of purpose, all whilst questioning why he signed up to do this film in the first place. The plot is very hastily tied up in a makeshift bow as barely anything is resolved. The whole second half of the film was in vain as Sandler is rejected and he then has an argument with Rogen, only to make up two minutes later. Then the film ends and youre wishing you watched Punch-Drunk Love instead.
