10 Films You Didn't Know Were Banned For Stupid Reasons

2. Goldfinger Banned In Israel Because Gert Frobe Was Former Member Of Nazi Party

05_Flatbed_1 OCTOBER Goldfinger is probably one the most famous of the Bond films and it found itself banned in Israel when it was released in 1964. Sean Connery€™s third outing as 007 is many fans' favourite and full of many quotable lines. But once the Israeli government found out that actor Gert Frobe, who did an awesome job playing the villain Goldfinger, was a member of the Nazi party, they banned the film as quick as they could. Considering that is 1964, the events of the Second World War would have been still raw, you might think that Israel were right to ban the film and that the film producers should have done more research when they decided to cast Frobe in the role. But it is the Israeli government who should have done more research because if they had, they would have known that Forbe used his membership of the Nazi party to save Jews from the Gestapo. They realised their mistake and reversed the ban once a gentleman went to the Israeli Embassy in Vienna and told staff that Gert Fröbe risked everything to hide him and his mother from the Nazis and therefore saved both their lives.
