10 Final Movie Scenes That Changed Everything
6. Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is a movie that turned a lot of fans against it in its maddening opening sequence, where Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) is inexplicably resurrected as a zombie-puppet-thing because... reasons.
It gets worse when Rey (Daisy Ridley) is revealed to be Palpatine's granddaughter, and the rest of the movie is basically a rushed sprint from one set-piece to the next while failing to satisfactorily deal with the Knights of Ren or give Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) a gratifying conclusion to his character arc.
But not merely content to settle for being a crushing disappointment, The Rise of Skywalker entered irredeemable territory in its final scene, when Rey returned to Tatooine to bury Luke (Mark Hamill) and Leia's (Carrie Fisher) lightsabers.
An old woman passing by asks her what her name is, and Rey responds with "Rey Skywalker," a grossly unearned utterance which completely sank the movie for a large swath of fans.
It just compounded how ill-conceived the entire movie was, and what a lackluster capper it provided to the entire nine-movie Skywalker Saga.
