10 Foods Made Infamous By The Movies

1. Fava Beans & A Nice Chianti - Silence Of The Lambs

There is no secret to be made of Anthony Hopkins' cannibalistic tendencies, in Jonathan Demme's crime-thriller. However, one could only imagine Clarice Starling's fear having heard it first hand from the man himself. Hopkins delivers a deliciously creepy performance as Hannibal Lecter, the doctor-turned-killer, and exudes his menace at no finer point than his first encounter with the young FBI cadet. Such is the notoriety of the now infamous 'fava bean and chianti combo' (although hands up if you still have no idea who or what a chianti is - nice or otherwise!) that it would be laughed off any menu. Hopkins' blase admission to having eaten a man's liver is surpassed only by the bizarre smacking of the lips he makes - as if his mother never made him a delicious roast, and liver with beans was genuinely the nicest thing he'd ever tasted. Certain words often get associated with films - 'woodchipper' and Fargo, 'iceberg' and Titanic - 'chianti' is no exception. Like this article? Let us know in the comments section below.
