10 Formidable Final Girls Who Survived Horror Movies
8. Mia Allen - Evil Dead (2013)
Remakes... the bane of every movie lover everywhere. Why film a classic movie again shot for shot? The new version of Evil Dead bucked the trend by re imagining integral aspects of the plot in an attempt to modernize the franchise for a new generation. A key alteration for the remake of Evil Dead was its new line up of young teenagers/victims who retreated to the now infamous cabin in the woods for an intervention. Mia Allen, the focus of said intervention, is another unusual 'final girl' as she's possessed for most of the film by a demon, but she comes to the fore in the final act. SPOILER ALERT! After she is resuscitated from the brink of death, Allen returns demon-free and ultimately, it's up to her to defeat the evil presence that has killed her friends. Cue the classic chainsaw. Clover referred to the female use of weaponry as "phallic appropriation," explaining that it allowed the final girls to take on masculinity to penetrate the monster and find a release for their sexual tension. I just think it's a kick ass way of paying homage to the original Evil Dead, but then what do I know?
