10 Found Footage Horror Movies You Should See Before You Die

6. As Above So Below

As Above So Below is easily the most under-appreciated movie on this list. With a ridiculously low 26% on Rotten Tomatoes, you may have already written it off, but doing so would be a huge mistake.

Despite being criticised as derivative and formulaic, As Above So Below boasts plenty of inventive set-pieces as our cast of murder-fodder tourists descend the catacombs located beneath Paris. This subterranean setting is perfect for the found-footage framing as well, with the limited field of vision complimenting the claustrophobic tunnels and caved-in dead ends.

Like The Descent before it, this film succeeds in part because of the horror inherent to the location. The supernatural frights are well executed, but they're accentuated by the suffocating terror of characters literally digging their own graves, struggling through narrow caverns and losing themselves in a never-ending labyrinth.

It's chaotic, but it's the kind of chaos found footage was made for.
