10 Franchises Other Than Star Wars That Will Return... Whether You Like It Or Not

8. Alien

Alien Any damage done by the two abysmal Aliens V Predator films or even Prometheus is merely superficial, and the Alien brand remains robust enough to suffer poor entries but still be financially successful. But you can€™t keep under-delivering and expect people to buy it, as eventually the stink will turn them away, just as the diminishing returns between the two AVP films overtly demonstrates. With the Alien franchise there is a feeling that we could be heading towards the reboot stage. AVP broke the cycle of Ripley appearing in every film, and now that sanctity of the franchise has been broken it can feasibly go anywhere. Too much time may have passed since Alien: Resurrection to explore Ripley and Link's arrival back on Earth but if the franchise was to be bold and go the sequel rather than reboot route, some interesting possibilities would emerge. If we allow ourselves to forget that the two dismal spin-offs brought the Xenomorphs to earth, then unleashing the creatures on our planet seems to be the outcome the series has long been heading for. One suggestion would be a far flung sequel, say 30 or so years after Resurrection, which sees the Xenomorphs raining apocalyptic havoc. This would allow for old clone Ripley to emerge from a hermit-like existence and use her personal and inherited knowledge of the beasts to help bring about their destruction.
