10 Franchises That Killed Off The Wrong Person

8. Caesar (Andy Serkis) - War For The Planet Of The Apes

War For The Planet Of The Apes Caesar

Why He Shouldn't Have Died:

In the final part of the excellent Apes revival trilogy, ape leader Caesar (Andy Serkis) expires from injuries sustained in his final stand against humanity.

Yes, his death was emotional and a fitting end to his arc, but it was also incredibly predictable. Seriously, who didn't see that coming going in?

Who Should've Died Instead:

This one really hurts to admit, but Maurice (Karin Konoval) dying would've actually been an even more affecting and memorable finale than the inevitability of Caesar's heart-rending demise.

Caesar's pacifist confidante instead paying the ultimate price would've been an even more brutal gut-punch, subverting expectations by allowing Caesar to survive with what remains of his family, but at great personal cost.
