10 Franchises That Made It To Episode 7 Before Star Wars

What's the story?

Vengeful mother Pamela Voorhees murders a bunch of horny teens at Camp Crystal Lake in revenge for the death of her son Jason, who isn't really dead so goes on a killing spree of his own. Repeatedly.

A machete to the skull finally takes him down in the fourth part, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, only Jason stays about as dead as he did the first time.

What's in Part 7?

In Friday The 13th Part VII: The New Blood a telekinetic child accidentally kills her father at Crystal Lake and is bizarrely advised to return there by her psychiatrist despite the location's bloody history. Predictably her powers accidentally resurrect Jason, rather than the abusive parent that she apparently wanted back, resulting in another hack and slash spree until that same dead dad drags Jason back to the depths.

How does it compare with the previous six?

As The New Blood's title might suggest, it's the same old story with just a different set of disposable victims. Never the most imaginative of horror franchises, Friday was really running empty at this point. Oddly, though, this version of the ever-evolving Jason, played for the first time by massive stuntman Kane Hodder, is the one that most people picture when thinking of the character.

Did it go beyond seven?

Jason would be in for a few more deaths and one more 'final' instalment before finally being rebooted in 2009. The Crystal Lake setting was done for, though, with Jason instead hacking his way through New York, Hell, and a spaceship 400 years in the future.
