You can rest assured that Thanos is not finished with Loki yet. Of Thanos, during Loki's invasion of Earth, Chitauri conspirator the Other said, "if you fail, if the Tesseract is kept from us, there will be no realm, no barren moon, no crevice where he can not find you. You think you know pain? He will make you long for something as sweet as pain." Given that Loki did fail and the Tesseract ended up in Asgard, Thanos will have been angry. Loki will be punished - and the only way he can avoid that is to be given another chance to work alongside Thanos and succeed. If that happens, however, rest assured that, if he fails again, Loki will suffer. Given Loki's success as a live action character, it wouldn't surprise anyone to see him working alongside Thanos in an Infinity Gauntlet movie, where he could perhaps take the role of Thanos' underling that Mephisto had in the comic book arc of the same name.
